Shueisha revealed today that the "final chapter" of manga will be published on the franchise's app on June 17th. After news of several endings to the series, could this be the time?
The 26th issue of this year's Weekly Shonen Jump previously revealed that the chapter would be released on June 10th, but Shueisha stated on Twitter that due to "various circumstances" the chapter will be released on June 17th. The same printing error will be present in the upcoming 27th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump.
The manga's "final fanbook" will be released this summer. The magazine also stated that the manga's "final volume" will be released simultaneously with the fanbook.
The manga ended its run in Weekly Shonen Jump in the 42nd issue last year, on September 15th, as planned; however, Shueisha announced on the same day that the manga would continue "for some time longer" in Shueisha's Jump Giga magazine. The manga's run in Jump Giga launched with a 54-page chapter in the magazine's first Winter issue, on December 28th. Gintama ran in Jump Giga for three consecutive issues. The third chapter of Jump Giga announced in February that the manga would continue in the franchise's app.
The manga was then released on the app on May 13, and the second chapter premiered today (27). The next and supposedly “final” chapter will be released on June 17.
Sorachi began the manga in 2004. The manga has inspired several anime series, including the most recent one that began airing last July, two anime films, several OVAs and anime events, two live-action films, and two live-action net spinoff series. A new anime is “probably” in production.
