The team behind The Irregular at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou No Rettousei) announced that the previously announced sequel will be a new anime airing next year. As such, the original character designer, Kana Ishida, created the promotional art that accompanies the announcement video.

The returning cast includes:
- Saori Hayami as Miyuki Shiba
- Yūichi Nakamura as Tatsuya Shiba
- Kiyono Yasuno as Minami Sakurai
Jimmy Stone, animation director and episode director for previous projects in the franchise, is therefore the director of the new anime at Studio 8-Bit. Taku Iwasaki (Black Butler, Bungo Stray Dogs, Gurren Lagann) returns as music composer.
Satou's light novel series was launched in 2008 and concluded with volume 32 in September 2020.
Finally, the first season of the anime premiered in April 2014 and had 26 episodes. A second season, titled "The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc," premiered on October 3rd and had 13 episodes. In addition, the franchise also includes the film "The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Summons the Stars," which was released in Japan in June 2017.
