The game was codenamed “T1X” and was started by Michael Mumbauer , founder of the Visual Arts Service Group . With his team of 30 people, he reportedly gave up on the idea of remaking Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (2007).
However, the team suffered problems as Sony kept its existence a secret and refused to offer a larger investment. Then, Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, considered the title too expensive and had the studio help with the production of Part II (2020).
Finally, Sony sent several Naughty Dog to the “T1X” project. The remake became a Naughty Dog game. From then on, Mumbauer and other original producers left the company, but the game continued in development.
