The Last of Us series won't change Ellie's sexuality

After the announcement of the adaptation of The Last of Us, some questions arose, including a fan, who asked not to erase the character's representation, the screenwriter and showrunner Craig Mazin gave his word that the protagonist will, indeed, be portrayed as a homosexual woman.

Ellie's sexuality was first addressed in the Left Behind , when the young woman appears kissing Riley. Based on the trailers for the game , the character is expected to become romantically involved with another woman.

The project will be a rare collaboration between different media. Mazin, from TV, will produce and co-write the project alongside Neil Druckmann , who directed the 2013 game and also its sequel, scheduled to arrive on PlayStation 4 in May 2020. Production will be by Sony Pictures Television , and also it will mark the first work for the PlayStation Productions .

Finally, the game is set in a post-apocalyptic world, The Last of Us follows the journey of Joel, a survivor who may have found the cure for the infection in Ellie, a girl immune to the virus. With excellent reviews, the game arrived on the PlayStation 3 in 2013, and was later re-released on the PS4. Its sequel, The Last of Us – Part II , arrives on console on May 29th .
