Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- from Sunrise and Khara continues to dominate Japanese cinemas. The film, which debuted in first place at the box office, maintained its lead into its second weekend.

In addition to its success on screen, the film's soundtrack is also achieving great feats. According to Oricon, the main theme, "Plazma," reached the top of the Oricon Weekly Digital Singles, with over 43,000 downloads in its first week.

Sunrise/Studio Khara/Kenshi Yonezu

Performed by Kenshi Yonezu, a renowned singer already known for iconic anime songs, “Plazma” is the artist's 17th single to reach number one on the Oricon chart, breaking his own record. Among Yonezu's other hits are “Kick Back” from Chainsaw Man, “Peace Sign” from My Hero Academia (Season 2), “Tsuki wo Miteita – Moongazing” from Final Fantasy XVI , and “Spinning Globe” from The Boy and the Heron, an Oscar-winning film. Gundam fans got a preview of “Plazma” in the trailer for GQuuuuuuX, released after the premiere of -Beginning- in Japan. Recently, Yonezu also revealed the single's cover art, highlighting the characters Amate and Shuji.

Gundam: An expected success

franchise Gundam remains firmly established as one of the biggest in entertainment, especially in Asia. Recently, the series Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury became the most popular in the franchise in years, boosting sales. Meanwhile, the film Gundam Seed Freedom, released in 2024, became the most profitable film in the franchise's history, grossing over $17 million.

Therefore, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- has grossed nine million dollars at the box office, but the international premiere, scheduled for February 28th in the United States, could increase that number. Other productions, such as Seed Freedom and classic 80s films, have also been successful in international markets, reinforcing the global appeal of the series.
