On September 18th, fans of The Quintessential Quintuplets will have the chance to reunite with the Nakano sisters in a new adventure. This time, the setting isn't an ordinary classroom, but a magic academy in a kingdom where science and sorcery coexist. The new game, The Quintessential Princesses: Fantasy the Abyss and the Magic Academy, casts Futaro Uesugi as the tutor of the five students who face not only trials, but also monsters and dangerous missions.
The RPG will be released in Japan for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The PS4 version will be a download-only version. Developed by MAGES, the title blends romance, strategy, and fantasy. Players must lead the protagonists through dungeons, forge magical items, and uncover the school's secrets.
School romance with a touch of adventure
The story of The Quintessential Quintuplets begins with Futaro accepting a job as a teacher at a magical institution. The students? The quintuplets, who are about to fail. Daughters of a nobleman who serves the crown, they carry responsibilities but also hide mysteries. Throughout the narrative, each will have their own developmental storyline, revealing unique personality traits and parallel stories.
The game blends dungeon exploration with school life, maintaining the original anime's romantic and fun tone. Side quests and special events complement the main journey, allowing the player to delve deeper into the protagonists' world. Gameplay includes turn-based combat, resource gathering, and the creation of custom wands.
Special editions and exclusive content
Three versions will be available at launch. The standard edition will be available in both physical and digital formats. The Limited Edition will include a Blu-ray with previously unreleased animations, an artbook with interviews and concept art, and the soundtrack in physical format. Extras include a 45-minute visual drama and a 10-minute mini-anime produced by Seven Arcs.
For collectors, the Special Boxed Edition of The Quintessential Quintuplets will bring together all previous content and also include metal buttons, acrylic character stands, an anime script, miniature storyboards, and a special Blu-ray cover. There will also be a digital deluxe version with access to the same content via download codes.
Interactive experience with over 100 missions
In addition to the main narrative, the game will feature over a hundred quests, involving battles, collecting rare items, and magical challenges. Progressing through the quests unlocks new events and strengthens the characters. Additionally, players can adjust attributes, synthesize magical gems, and explore environments like caves and deserts. Each victory helps deepen the bond between Futaro and his sisters.
With a simple progression system and colorful visuals, the game remains accessible to both casual and veteran fans. The goal is to offer an emotional and fun experience, expanding the already well-known universe of the manga and anime. The production marks the fourth title in the franchise on consoles and continues the involvement of the MAGES studio, which has experience with similar adaptations.
Continuity and anticipation among fans of The Quintessential Quintuplets
The Quintessential Quintuplets already has three other console games released previously, all of which have received positive reviews in Japan. This new venture aims to renew interest in the franchise with a new setting and a more dynamic approach, blending RPG and interactive storytelling. The producers promise to reveal more details about the animated opening in the July issue of Megami magazine, scheduled for May 30th.
The Quintessential Princesses is expected to further strengthen fans' connection to the franchise. The fantastical setting and gameplay model centered on relationships and school progression promise to please both anime fans and RPG players. There's no release date yet for the West.
