NHK has announced that it is producing an anime adaptation of the novel The Raven Does Not Choose its Master ( Karasu wa Aruji o Erabanai ) by Chisato Abe. The anime will premiere on NHK in April 2024.

Synopsis
The books focus on the world of the yatagarasu, which is the Japanese name for a variant of the mythical crown gods found in East Asian folklore. Furthermore, the yatagarasu have the ability to transform between human and crow forms, and reside in the world of Yamauchi, a parallel world created by the yatagarasu god Yamagami. Within Yamauchi, the yatagarasu live in a society reminiscent of Heian-era Japan. Additionally, this parallel world remains connected to our human world.
Abe launched the first novel in the “Karasu ni Hitoe wa Niawanai” series in 2012. The first part of the novel consists of six novels, with “Karasu wa Aruji o Erabanai” being the second, released in 2013, and a parallel novel. The second part of the novel series has so far inspired three novels, the most recent of which was released in October 2022, and a parallel novel.
Finally, the first two novels in the series inspired manga adaptations. Natsumi Matsuzaki illustrated the manga adaptation of “Karasu ni Hitoe wa Niawanai,” which was published on Kodansha Comic Days ” from June 2018 to April 2020. Kodansha is also releasing the manga in English on its “K MANGA” service under the title “A Raven for All Seasons.” Additionally, Matsuzaki launched the manga “Karasu wa Aruji o Erabanai” in Kodansha’s “Evening” magazine in May 2020 and transferred it to “Comic Days” in December 2021.
