The Alicization arc follows chapters 9 through 18 of Kawahara's light novel. Kirito gets a job at a company called Rath, to test a new type of FullDive equipment known as the Soul Translator. But Rath is secretly working on creating a new military AI with the soul of a human child trapped inside it, and now Kirito is caught between "Alice" and those who want to keep Kirito away from her.
