In an interview with Variety, Laura Miele, president of EA Entertainment, confirmed that The Sims franchise will undergo its biggest transformation in 25 years. The company will launch a large-scale multiplayer version of The Sims and adapt the game for cinemas in a film produced by Margot Robbie. The changes point to a new phase for EA, focused on interactive and connected experiences.

EA's proposal is to transform The Sims into a multiplatform universe, maintaining the legacy of The Sims 4, but expanding into online, mobile, and even cinema formats. The company sees the franchise as an unprecedented opportunity to engage with multiple audiences without abandoning its loyal player base.

The Sims multiplayer will be the biggest leap for the franchise since its launch

After years of speculation about a possible The Sims 5, EA has confirmed that it is developing a brand new multiplayer experience for the franchise. Laura Miele states that EA treats the new project as one of its biggest bets, focusing on online interactions and connectivity between players.

The proposal goes beyond simply including cooperative modes: it's about creating a social environment where players can live, build, and share experiences in real time. This approach reflects EA's strategy of investing in persistent communities, a model that has already proven effective in titles like Apex Legends.

The Sims 4 will preserve content

One of the community's main concerns was the possibility of losing everything that had been achieved over the years. Miele clarified that the new The Sims will not require starting from scratch. On the contrary, the company intends to preserve the content already released, more than 85 packs to date, and update the base technology without discarding the legacy of the current game.

This choice was made to maintain community loyalty and value the time invested by players. Thus, the idea is to build the franchise's future without breaking with the past, offering a smooth transition between generations.

The Sims movie will be released with content connected to the game

EA also revealed that it is producing a Sims movie in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios and Margot Robbie's production company, LuckyChap. This project, planned for years, is now taking shape with the right creative involvement. The company's intention is to create a bridge between the cinematic universe and the game, integrating content and experiences.

Laura Miele states that the film and the game will feed off each other, offering a cohesive journey across media. Furthermore, the adaptation will not only be a showcase for the brand, but part of a broader narrative and engagement strategy.

EA plans to transform The Sims into a living, cross-platform ecosystem

More than just a game, The Sims is being shaped into an expansive ecosystem. Beyond the multiplayer version and the movie, EA is also developing mobile versions, cozy game-style games for Asian markets, and new interactive experiences.

For Laura Miele, the future of the franchise lies in the variety of formats and the coexistence of different ways to play. With current technology and the advancement of online communities, EA believes it is possible to offer a flexible, personalized, and connected universe where the player has the freedom to create, interact, and evolve continuously.
