Therefore, the anime Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu (The Summer Hikaru Died) premieres in the July 2025 season with animation by the studio CygamesPictures (Princess Connect! Re:Dive).

Synopsis:
Yoshiki and Hikaru are two teenagers living in a small rural town in Japan. Despite their polar opposite personalities and distinct interests, their friendship is deep and sincere. However, one fateful winter day, Hikaru suffers a fatal injury while hiking alone in the mountains. Before he dies, he is found by a mysterious supernatural entity that consumes him, taking on his physical form.
Therefore, the manga written and illustrated by Mokumokuren , gained serialization on Kadokawa Shoten 's Young Ace Up in August 2021. Mokumokuren first conceived of The Summer Hikaru Died while studying for exams and later began posting drawings on Twitter, which led the Young Ace Up editorial department to approach Mokumokuren to serialize the manga via the Young Ace Up website.
