Makoto Shinkai
First of all, his real name is Makoto Niitsu, and he was born in Japan in 1973. That means he is currently 48 years old. Furthermore, he's the kind of person we can call a genius! He's a true master of directing, animation, and even excels as a writer and screenwriter. In fact, he has achieved worldwide acclaim with his diverse works, as we will see below. Not to mention that he has produced numerous short films, commercials, and novels .
Makoto Shinkai – Main Works

Byosoku Go-Senchimetoru: Here, we can start by highlighting this work that became known as 5 Centimeters Per Second. It was released in 2007, but Makoto's success began much earlier with Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho. However, I decided to start with this one because it's by far my favorite of all. With a romance that's anything but fictional, or perhaps even too realistic? In any case, this is by far one of the best-written romance works of all time!

Kotonoha no Niwa: Released in 2013 as The Garden of Words, it was a tremendous success. It boasted an outstanding narrative and an engaging romance, almost as tragic as the one above. Furthermore, it's worth highlighting Makoto Shinkai's attention to detail in developing all the characters uniquely, leaving no room for plot holes or lack of personality. In short, if you haven't seen it, go watch it now.

Kimi no Na wa: This was undoubtedly Makoto's biggest success to date! Your Name toured the world, making waves and attracting a legion of fans starting in 2016! Therefore, you've almost certainly seen this film and still remember it today, even though more than four years have passed. With that in mind, I recommend watching this fantastic work of romance and fiction that touched the world again.

Tenki no Ko: Now, to finish our list, let's talk about the master's most recent work. This one was released in 2019 and was also a tremendous success. Furthermore, it's worth mentioning the ending, which is surreal and makes us reflect on what really matters. To avoid unnecessary spoilers, go watch this phenomenal work now.
Conclusion
Finally, we still have several successful works by Makoto Shinkai such as Journey to Agartha or The Place Promised in Our Early Days. But, we decided to focus on his best films. It's worth highlighting the sensational work he always does, especially the animation, which is always a strong point of his, and the screenplay, which never disappoints. A true master who deserves all respect and admiration, and may his next works come soon!
