CD Projekt Red officially revealed The Witcher 4 during The Game Awards 2024 event, surprising fans with a six-minute cinematic trailer. The game will mark the beginning of a new saga, with Ciri, adopted daughter of Geralt of Rivia, taking on the role of protagonist. The developer, known for hits such as Cyberpunk 2077 (2020) and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015), confirmed that the game will be an open-world single-player RPG.

In the plot, players will follow Ciri on her journey to become a professional monster hunter. The universe of The Witcher 4 promises to be even darker and more brutal, exploring new technologies, such as Unreal Engine 5 in a customized version, running on an as-yet-unannounced NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU.
Change of protagonist and new possibilities
This will be the first title in the series without Geralt as the main character, which represents a major change in the dynamics of the franchise. According to Sebastian Kalemba, game director, this decision reflects the intention to explore new perspectives within the universe: “For a long time, we knew that Ciri would be the protagonist. We want to show what it really means to become a wizard.”
The trailer reveals some of Ciri's abilities, including the use of chains and magical powers, which could bring significant new features to the gameplay.
Despite the change in narrative focus, Geralt's presence is not completely ruled out. Cian Maher, lore designer at CD Projekt Red, mentioned that the character remains active in the events of The Witcher . He highlighted that Geralt “isn’t going anywhere”, indicating that the witcher could appear in future stories.

Although there is no confirmation on platforms or release date, the game has already entered full production.
