Respawn founder and CEO Vince Zampella confirmed that Titanfall 2 is in development and will be released for Xbox One, PC and also the PlayStation 4 (which did not receive the first title). Zampella spoke to IGN UK at the BAFTA Game Awards, where Titanfall is nominated for three awards.
“I believe EA announced a sequel, so I could pretend I don't know anything... Well, we're working on a sequel. There is no official name yet, but we are creating it. That's the main focus, but we're also creating a new development team and doing smaller things. Small, explorer, calmly. It will be multiplatform,” said Zampella
It seems that the decision to broaden the game's horizons in terms of platform was never in doubt. When asked if Respawn would change anything about the first game, Respawn COO Dusty Welch said that “platforming is the first thing that comes to mind.” Zampella later explained that “the Xbox One exclusivity was necessary for us to be able to make the game.”
“The opportunity to make Titanfall 2 a cross-platform game made it more meaningful for us,” said Zampella.
As for what we should expect from the next game in the series, the duo remained silent, but promised that they will expand their horizons. It is also unknown whether the new game will have a single player part. “I wouldn’t have done Titanfall any differently,” explained Zampella, talking about the characteristic of the first game having only one multiplayer phase.
“We know this is something that inhibits some people from playing the game, and as creators we want to see our game in the hands of as many people as possible. We tried to include some of these elements, but it's difficult to find a balance. It takes time to find it, and we haven't found it yet”, believes the Respawn executive.
New games, however, have influenced Titanfall: Evolve, for example, with its free maps, seems like a good way to go for Titanfall 2's DLCs. “It's a fantastic way to do it,” said Zampella.
