Episode 12 of To Be Hero X , released on June 21st, marks the end of Queen's character arc. In just two episodes, the narrative reveals a bit of the heroine's past and explains her goals. The anime, which maintains a timeline and an unusual and bold format, continues to hold some mysteries with the promise of a connection between the events.
In the previous episode, Queen was introduced as the most brilliant young woman in the college's history. In her graduation speech, she says she wants to become a hero and bring order and justice to the world. She also reveals her goal is to destroy and surpass the trust index. With this, the DOS organization hires her to be the group's new hero.
Besides Queen, episode 11 also introduces the hero X, who has been a mystery to viewers since the beginning of the anime, as his name, origin, and power remain unknown. According to the anime's official website, he doesn't belong to any organization. Furthermore, the characters in the story realize there's no information about him, confirming that absolutely everything about the hero is a mystery.
Queen participates in the duel for the title of X
Queen's character arc also introduces Bowa and Johnny, two heroes from the DOS organization. Bowa, one of the ten most powerful heroes, participates in a tournament for the title of X and wins. However, she loses her position as the most powerful hero when the mysterious man appears and quickly takes the X position with his unknown and surprising power.
Queen's arc takes place around the same time as Lucky Cyan's story, at a time when fear particles are present. After Bowa loses the tournament, she becomes enraged and suspects Queen is behind it to take her place in the hero rankings. Fearing she will be replaced, Bowa is overcome by fear particles, a substance containing negative energy that is released by the human body when a person is frightened.
The heroine Queen also fights for the title of X, but is defeated within seconds by the mysterious man. Throughout the episodes, it becomes clear that the character is intensely self-imposed and desires, at any cost, to assume the position of X. However, when Lucky Cyan is hired by DOS, the two become friends and develop a connection, which leads Queen to adopt a more laid-back personality.
Bowa is overcome by the fear particles and strikes Queen
Driven by a devastating rage, Bowa confronts Queen. The fight between the two is surprising and dynamic. Furthermore, the vibrant colors highlight the characters' powers. Unlike the other arcs, the conflict between Bowa and Queen doesn't feature a striking soundtrack, but it does feature impressive movement. The character designs also stand out, especially when the heroes are wearing their costumes.
After defeating Bowa, Queen, who is seriously injured, is taken to the hospital. There, she remains unconscious for several days. With the support of Lucky Cyan and Johnny, Queen soon recovers and leaves the hospital. At the end of the episode, as the heroine and Lucky Cyan are heading off on vacation, they encounter a giant monster, which may be related to the next storyline.
To Be Hero X: What to expect from the next episode?
With the Queen arc coming to a close, it's time to introduce a new hero to the top ten. According to the released schedule, the next heroine will be Loli, a member of the FOMO organization. The anime's official website describes the character as a girl with a strong sense of justice. They also highlight her demonstrated abilities in mechanical engineering and long-distance running.
The anime To Be Hero X maintains its bold and unusual format, where each arc, with the exception of Lucky Cyan's story, ended with an incomplete and mysterious narrative. However, according to an interview published on the official website, Li Haolin, the work's director, reveals that "from now on, I would like to gradually rewind time and portray the past of various characters and different timelines, connecting organizations, conspiracies, and people."
Li Haolin also asserts that Nice has not been forgotten and that the story before his death will still be told. The narrative structure of To Be Hero X draws attention and arouses curiosity in the viewer. Each arc and character introduced in the anime heightens the audience's anticipation of finally understanding past events. However, the anime's outcome remains a mystery, as does the character X, who is likely a key element in understanding the narrative.
Episode 13 will be released on Saturday, June 28, on the Crunchyroll streaming platform, with Portuguese dubbing.
