The episode explains that a large jet crashed in a populated area. When a journalist tries to infiltrate the wreckage to capture some footage for his story, he encounters Cyan, the sole survivor of the plane crash. They take the little girl to an orphanage, where she remains for several years.
To Be Hero X brings Lucky Cyan's childhood
During her years at the orphanage, everyone around Lucky Cyan wore her. People saw her as a lucky charm, and little by little, she became a symbol of the orphanage. When people wanted their wishes granted, they would come to Cyan for advice. However, the girl wanted a normal childhood, one where she could play freely with children her own age.
Since childhood, Cyan has demonstrated a high level of confidence. However, at one point in the story, she confesses that she doesn't know why she receives so many confidence points, nor does she understand the reason for her high luck. Despite the girl's sadness at not living a normal life, the orphanage owner continues to use her as a symbol of luck to grant people's wishes. Therefore, Lucky Cyan begins performing and singing as a way to bless those hoping for her good fortune.
After a few years living friendless at the orphanage, Lucky Cyan meets a boy nicknamed "Calamity," a rumor that he brings bad luck wherever he goes. However, the two grow closer and gradually build a friendship.
Lucky Cyan decides to go his own way
During Lucky Cyan's performance for the audience visiting her at the orphanage, the character decides to try something different. She swaps the melodious song the audience was used to for something more upbeat, a style of music similar to the show featured in the E-Soul arc.
However, the new performance isn't well received by the public, much less by the orphanage owner. So, Lucky Cyan and Calamity attempt to escape. The orphanage owner blocks the exit and, obsessed with helping people, prevents the girl from leaving. He even shows he's ready to use his powers to prevent her escape. The man, who initially seemed like a good person and opposed Lucky Cyan's exploitation, ended up being corrupted by his desire to be seen as a hero.
The episode ends mysteriously. We don't know if the orphanage owner will be one of the main villains, or if he'll be dealt with quickly in the next episode. Unlike the other episodes, Lucky Cyan's introduction was relaxed. Without any fighting or much action, the anime chose to focus more on the story and explain the character's past.
What to expect from the next episodes?
The anime director confirmed that, starting with the Cyan arc, the series' heroes will be animated in 2D. Thus, in episode 8, the animation style changes. For those who haven't watched it because they don't like 3D animation, this could be your chance to experience To Be Hero X.
So far, the connection between Lucky Cyan and Yang Cheng's stories has not been confirmed. However, it's likely that, like Lin Ling's arc, there's a common thread. Furthermore, the heroine Queen, who ranks 2nd in the rankings, also appears in the episode. However, at the time the story takes place, she's not yet a known heroine. In the episode, it's revealed that she's the daughter of the journalist who found Lucky Cyan.
Lucky Cyan's story is told in just three episodes. The next arc, which contains two episodes, will focus on the Queen. The anime is available on the Crunchyroll streaming platform, with Portuguese dubbing.
