Toei Animation announced this Thursday, the 5th, that it is launching a new animation brand, ETERNA Animation . This is in anticipation of 70th anniversary in 2026.

In the announcement, the company talks a bit about the decision to launch a new brand. “Through ETERNA Animation, the company will establish a sustainable creative platform dedicated to the continuous production of original works. The initiative also places a strong focus on discovering and nurturing emerging creative talent as part of a next-generation animation project model.”

According to the company, the "ETERNA" brand reflects Toei Animation's aspiration "endure deeply in the hearts and memories of viewers ." With this announcement, they seek to "offer new stories, highlight new voices, and explore new expressive forms of animation with artistic freedom and lasting emotional impact."

Debut title: FOXING: Kitsuné-tsuki
ETERNA Animation already has its first project in development. The first title from the new label is the short film FOXING: Kitsuné-tsuki . Takeru Shinozuka will direct the production in his commercial directorial debut, with a release scheduled for 2026 .
Toei described the anime's synopsis
"The story explores universal themes such as isolation, fantasy, and the confrontation of the self in contemporary society. It portrays, in a poetic and visual way, the emotional transformation of the protagonist as she journeys towards personal liberation."
The MIFA Talent Panel will present FOXING to the public during the International Animated Film Festival . The session will showcase pre-production materials, including visual frames and character designs.
Director Shinozuka and producer Moriyama will appear on stage to share some of their creative experiences on the project. The publicity team has released the first visual for the short film. Check it out:
Toei Animation at the Oscars
The announcement of ETERNA's creation comes after a landmark moment for the company. The short film Magic Candies , based on the original illustrated book by Heena Baek, received a nomination for the 97th Academy Awards Best Animated Short Film category .
According to Toei, this shows that they are "further consolidating the studio's global reputation for excellence in animated storytelling and artistic achievement." Based on this, the company decided to embark on a "bold new challenge .
