The story follows Takemichi Hanagaki, who, at the age of 26, discovers he is a time traveler. After uncovering the truth behind his ex-girlfriend's death, he manages to travel back in time about 12 years, allowing him to warn the girl about what would happen to her.

Ken Wakui launched the Tokyo Revengers manga in Weekly Shounen Magazine in March 2017. Kodansha published the manga's 29th volume on August 17th and will publish the 30th volume on November 17th.

The anime adaptation of the manga premiered in April 2021. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. The "Seiya Kessen" ("Christmas Showdown") arc of the anime premieres in January.

The manga inspired a live-action film that premiered in July 2021. The film was originally scheduled to premiere in Japan in October 2020, but was postponed to 2021 due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In February 2020, the manga had over 3 million copies in circulation. By May 2021, the manga had 17 million copies in circulation. Tokyo Revengers was the third best-selling manga series in the first half of 2021 (the period between November 2020 and May 2021), only behind Kimetsu no Yaiba and Jujutsu Kaisen, with over 5 million copies sold.

Finally, in 2020, Tokyo Revengers won the 44th annual Kodansha Manga Award in the "shounen" category.
