Worst Types of Censorship in Anime – Top 5

5. Cigarettes: First, let's start with this one, which may not be so serious, but it has a significant impact on the work. Characters with this characteristic certainly lose some moral character and personality when their cigarettes are taken away. A good example is Sanji, who, when his first dubbed version was released in Brazil, ended up replacing his cigarette with a mere lollipop!

4. Weapons: Another censorship that is certainly unnecessary is that of firearms. Their absence certainly detracts from the scenes, even making them seem lighter and more pathetic. Thus, as we see in the image above, we can once again cite One Piece, where we see Helmeppo holding a contraption that has no idea what purpose it serves!

03. Nudity

Anime

Starting off our top three, a true censorship classic is the hottest scenes, such as nudity. Often, intimate areas are covered by hair, objects, or even sunlight! Therefore, they don't directly interfere with the work, and I believe it's the right thing to do. However, it's still worth mentioning here.

02. Blood

Anime - Tokyo Ghoul
Anime – Tokyo Ghoul

Here, we see one that is certainly one of the most boring and that everyone is already accustomed to. Scenes with a lot of blood are heavily censored in most works, with rare exceptions like Attack on Titan. Thus, it certainly limits impactful scenes and weakens the story. Furthermore, waiting for the Blu-ray version is often quite annoying.

01. Culture

Anime - Doraemon

And finally, let's talk about the cultural issue. This is certainly the most unnecessary and annoying of all. When watching a work from another country, a cultural shock is completely normal. Furthermore, these differences are fundamental to learning and respect for all people. Therefore, censoring culture for political or religious reasons is completely ridiculous.

So, what's your opinion on the censorship? Leave a comment, and see you next time!
