Ubisoft is preparing a new battle royale title, directly inspired by Apex Legends . Codenamed Scout , the project has been in development for at least two years and aims to win over some of the audience that has drifted away from Respawn Entertainment's game in recent months.

Sources close to Insider Gaming claim that Ubisoft's game adopts a similar structure to its rival, both in character styles and abilities offered. Internal images of the project even used Apex as temporary illustrations during the production phase.
Game seeks to repeat the success of iconic characters
In the new game, Ubisoft attempts to replicate what made characters like Wraith, Pathfinder, and Lifeline popular. The playable heroes follow the model of agility, fast movement, and team cooperation—the pillars of the class system seen in Apex Legends .
Ubisoft is banking on EA's declining engagement to win over the public. According to one of the sources interviewed by Insider Gaming, Ubisoft intends to fill this space with a "familiar" experience, but under a new brand. Still, the proposal faces resistance within the company itself.
Internal Ubisoft research recently indicated a decline in public interest in battle royale games. In player surveys, the company even posed the question, "What comes after battle royale?", signaling that the market may be shifting to other formats.
Ubisoft insists on genre even after failures
Despite internal warnings, Ubisoft is sticking to its plans. However, history doesn't speak in its favor. Ubisoft released the battle royale game Hyper Scape in 2020 but shut it down less than two years later.
Since then, the company has canceled at least a dozen similar projects, according to Insider Gaming's investigation. The insistence on the genre raises questions about Ubisoft's ability to accurately read market trends.
Meanwhile, EA is also trying to address the Apex Legends . The company's CEO, Andrew Wilson, has publicly admitted that the game isn't achieving expected financial results. A major update, dubbed " Apex Legends 2.0 ," is in production, but no release date has been set yet.
The gaming market may be nearing a turning point
The current situation leaves both companies at a crossroads: whether to invest in a proven but failing model or to try new formulas. For Ubisoft, Scout represents yet another attempt to establish itself in a field that has already caused losses.
Despite the official silence, behind-the-scenes activity shows that the battle for battle royale players remains intense. The success of the new project will depend not only on its technical execution but also on its ability to offer something beyond what has been seen in previous titles.
