Ubisoft is preparing a new battle royale title, directly inspired by Apex Legends . Codenamed Scout , the project has been in development for at least two years and aims to win back some of the audience that has distanced itself from the Respawn Entertainment game in recent months.

Sources connected to Insider Gaming claim that Ubisoft's game adopts a similar structure to its rival, both in character style and the abilities offered. Internal images of the project even used Apex as temporary illustrations during the production phase.

The game aims to replicate the success of iconic characters
In the new game, Ubisoft attempts to replicate what made characters like Wraith, Pathfinder, and Lifeline popular. The playable heroes follow the model of agility, fast movement, and teamwork—pillars of the class system seen in Apex Legends .
Ubisoft is betting on EA's declining engagement to win over audiences. According to one of the sources interviewed by Insider Gaming, Ubisoft intends to occupy this space with a "familiar" experience, but under a new brand. Even so, the proposal is facing resistance within the company itself.
Internal research by Ubisoft recently indicated a decline in public interest in battle royale games. In questionnaires administered to players, the company even raised the question: "What comes after battle royale?", suggesting that perhaps the market is migrating to other formats.
Ubisoft insists on genre even after failures
Despite internal warnings, Ubisoft is sticking to its plans. However, history doesn't speak in its favor. Ubisoft launched the battle royale game Hyper Scape in 2020, but shut it down in less than two years.
Since then, the company has canceled at least a dozen similar projects, according to Insider Gaming. This insistence on the genre raises questions about Ubisoft's ability to accurately read market trends.
Meanwhile, EA is also trying to overcome the crisis in Apex Legends . The company's CEO, Andrew Wilson, has publicly admitted that the game has not been achieving the expected financial results. A major update, dubbed " Apex Legends 2.0 ," is in production, but without a set date yet.

The gaming market may be on the verge of a turning point
The current scenario puts both companies in a bind: bet on a proven but declining model, or risk new formulas. For Ubisoft, Scout represents yet another attempt to establish itself in territory that has already caused previous losses.
Despite the official silence, behind-the-scenes activity shows that the competition for battle royale players remains active. The success of the new project will depend not only on technical execution, but also on its ability to offer something beyond what has already been seen in previous titles.
