Valorant received a major update that migrated the game to Unreal Engine 5. The change, implemented in patch 11.02, brings significant performance improvements and prepares the title for future innovations that promise to impact the player experience in the long term.

The transition from Unreal Engine 4.27 to version 5.3 of the graphics engine also resulted in a considerable reduction in installation size and offers more tools for the development team to continuously improve the game.

Unreal Engine 5 reduces installation size and improves performance

Patch 11.02 required a larger initial download than usual, but Riot Games managed to reduce the space Valorant occupies on computers by up to 50%. This change ensures that, after the update, subsequent downloads will return to their normal size, optimizing the installation experience for all players.

Furthermore, the new engine brought performance improvements, including greater stability and more consistent frame rates. These changes may not be immediately noticeable to all players, but they establish a more robust technical foundation for future implementations.

Riot is preparing new possibilities for the future of Valorant

With Unreal Engine 5, the Riot Games team gains access to advanced features that will allow for game evolution over time. The engine enables the integration of more complex lighting, physics, and visual fidelity systems, as well as facilitating the development of new maps, modes, and game mechanics.

This flexibility is already being explored with the launch of the new Corrode map, created for quick and intense matches. The new feature utilizes the graphics engine's resources to deliver more immersive scenarios and more dynamic gameplay.

Players receive an exclusive item as a bonus

To celebrate the arrival of Unreal Engine 5, Riot Games has made the "Turbocharged Engine" weapon keychain available to all players who log into Valorant during patch 11.02. The item can be redeemed for free in the game's Collection tab.

Unreal Engine 5 offers scalability, and Riot Games optimizes Valorant for different hardware configurations, benefiting both modest machines and high-end computers. This feature should improve the stability of updates and facilitate technical support, ensuring that the community remains engaged without facing compatibility issues.

New guidelines in the competitive landscape

Alongside the technical update, Riot Games also implemented an important change in the competitive landscape. From now on, betting companies will be allowed to sponsor Valorant and League of Legends tournaments, which could directly impact the ecosystem of championships organized by the developer.
