Gangan Joker magazine announced in its November issue the name of Jun Mochizuki (best known for Pandora Hearts). It will be called Vanitas no Carte, and will be set in 19th-century Paris with a vampire and steampunk theme.
Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction, or speculative fiction, that gained popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It consists of works set in the past, in which modern technological paradigms occurred earlier than in real history (or in a universe with similar characteristics), but were achieved through science already available at the time—such as wooden computers and steam-powered airplanes. It is a style typically associated with futuristic cyberpunk and, like the latter, has a similar but distinct fan base.
The manga is scheduled to be released on December 22nd, but will only be published in the January issue of the magazine.
