Violet Evergarden Gaiden – KyoAni will not postpone the film!

The world premiere of KyoAni's Violet Evergarden Gaiden will take place at the German convention AnimagiC on August 3rd and 4th, "at the studio's express request," according to organizers. This means the film will be virtually finished and should officially open in Japanese theaters without any disruptions on January 10th, 2020.

After the tragic attack on Kyoto Animation that took the lives of 34 employees of the animation studio, many question the future of the projects that were in production at the time.

Violet Evergarden began as a light novel published by KyoAni after winning the grand prize at the studio's Kyoto Animation Awards in 2014. It was turned into an anime in 2016 and licensed by Netflix in 2018. Violet Evergarden Gaiden is a spin-off film, and before the fire, a sequel was scheduled for release next year.

Series director Taichi Ishidate and series producer Shinichiro Hatta will now not be attending the German premiere, but music producer Shigeru Saito will represent the film in their place.

Violet Evergarden is an anime adaptation of the novel by Kana Akatsuki (story) and Akiko Takase (illustration) by Kyoto Animation studio.

The director commented on his Twitter:

Now, with the help of many people, I've been writing a new Violet story. To create a work that can satisfy the audience. And to create a story that can make Violet happy. With these thoughts in mind, I've been working on it every day. I think it should be a truly beautiful story, like the letters Violet wrote.

The direction is by Taichi Ishidate, the character design is by Akiko Takase and as key animators we have: Nami Iwasaki, Fumio Tada, Kohei Okamura, Shinpei Sawa, Nobuaki Maruki, Tatsuya Sato and Miku Kadowaki.
