Director Manabu Ootsuka , CEO of MAPPA , wrote, “ We want the anime to be the most important thing, not the company name or brand. Anime titles are everything. It would be enough if people only knew our works, not MAPPA in particular .”
The quote had an ironic tone, which was interpreted by the fan community in the comments:
- Sure, exploiting their employees and accepting wholesale projects to monopolize the industry… Seems very believable… Of course, we don't want MAPPA to be the name it's known by… As if nobody in Zombieland Saga Revenge noticed that the name MAPPA is as big as the series logo;
- Please. The passion and effort that most MAPPA productions have when they reach the screen, and the kind of infernal work they do to make their quality possible, is not reflected in the words of the Director General. All you see is money
- It's 2022 and there are still people swallowing the words of a CEO as if they were the truth.
Therefore, the quote is in the book “ MAPPA BOOK 10th ANNIVERSARY ”, published in the last quarter of 2021 as part of the 10th anniversary of MAPPA in Japan.
