Weathering With You (Tenki no Ko), the newest film by director Makoto Shinkai , received a new poster on Tuesday (28) containing the anime , as well as a new trailer. The film premieres in Japan on July 19.
“In the summer of his first year of high school, Hokoda flees his remote island home, Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is exceptionally gloomy and rainy every day, as if to foreshadow his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then, one day, Hokoda meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strong girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky…”
The original work and direction are by Makoto Shinkai , who is also credited with his other success: Kimi no Nawa (Your Name). The animation is by studio CoMix Wave , and features names like Masayoshi Tanaka (character designer), Atsushi Tamura (animation director), and Hiroshi Takiguchi (art director). In addition, the band RADWIMPS is responsible for both the film's main theme and the music in general.
Shinkai also promises a novel that will adapt the film; he said it will be available both digitally and in print on July 18th.
