The sale of White Fox studio, known for Steins;Gate , Akame ga Kill , and Re:ZERO - Starting Life in Another World , to publisher AlphaPolis has raised concerns among fans. The transaction, which involved the acquisition of 100% of the shares, brought uncertainty about the fate of Re:ZERO and the role of the studio's founder, Gaku Iwasa .
Recently, Iwasa responded directly on social media to criticism regarding the sale. One user accused him of having outdated views on the market, citing Sengoku Youko as an example, and suggested he retire. In his defense, Iwasa stated that he never created White Fox with a focus on profit, but rather out of a passion for animation.
Commitment to Re:ZERO until the end
Re:ZERO would be deprioritized , as AlphaPolis was reportedly interested in adapting primarily its own works. However, Iwasa assured: " As long as Kadokawa-san or Nagatsuki-tentei don't kick me out, I plan to continue with Re:ZERO until the end. And even if something happens, I'll make a proper transition, so don't worry. "
Iwasa also revealed that his main goal with the sale is to strengthen White Fox Izukogen, a studio dedicated to training new animators in Izu. He believes the studio's essence and commitment to its work will remain unchanged.
Anime market in transformation
AlphaPolis's move is part of a race among Japanese companies to transform their intellectual properties into anime. Other publishers, such as Edia, have announced multi-million dollar investments to secure a presence in the animation market.
