Hiroyuki Imaishi , one of the founders of the Trigger studio, recently shared with the Japanese portal 'Febri' the reasons why works like “Kill la Kill” are no longer the studio's priority.
- “Look Back” Becomes a Box Office Phenomenon in Japan
- “Solo Leveling Ragnarok” Webtoon is Officially Announced
Imaishi explained:
We couldn't do something like Kill la Kill again. I feel that way about every project, but this time it was especially true. It was something we could only create at that time. It wasn't meticulously planned—well, it was more calculated than during the production of Gurren Lagann, but even so, the studio at that time didn't have the capacity to deliver on what the project was trying to achieve.

The anime "Kill la Kill" was a landmark in the studio's history and in Imaishi's career. Released in 2013, the series quickly became a global success, known for its vibrant animation, charismatic characters, and bold storytelling. However, the unique circumstances of that period are difficult to replicate.
Imaishi's statement highlights Studio Trigger's evolution and its constant pursuit of innovation. While anime has left an indelible mark, the studio continues to explore new horizons, adapting to industry changes and changing audience expectations.
Fans of the anime "Kill la Kill" may miss the style and intensity it brought, but it's exciting to think about the new creations and directions Studio Trigger still has in store. After all, the essence of creativity lies in its ability to continually reinvent itself.
Finally, the series was Studio Trigger's first original production, directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and written by the brilliant Kazuki Nakashima. This dynamic duo had previously collaborated on Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann. The series premiered in Japan on October 3, 2013, and aired until March 27, 2014, delighting fans around the world.
