Why Trigger studio left aside "Kill la Kill" style works

Hiroyuki Imaishi , one of the founders of the Trigger studio, recently shared with the Japanese portal 'Febri' the reasons why works like “Kill la Kill” are no longer the studio's priority.

Imaishi explained:

We couldn't do something like Kill la Kill anymore. I feel this with every project, but this time it was especially true. It was something we could only create at that time. It wasn't meticulously planned - well, it was more calculated than during the production of Gurren Lagann, but even so, the studio at that time didn't have the capacity to match what the project was trying to achieve.

The anime “Kill la Kill” was a milestone in the studio’s history and in Imaishi’s career. Released in 2013, the anime quickly became a global hit, known for its vibrant animation, charismatic characters, and bold storytelling. However, the unique circumstances of that period are difficult to replicate.

Imaishi's statement highlights the evolution of Estúdio Trigger and its constant search for innovation. Although anime has left an indelible mark, the studio continues to explore new horizons, adapting to changes in the industry and new audience expectations.

Fans of the anime “Kill la Kill” may miss the style and intensity that the anime brought, but it's exciting to think about the new creations and directions that Studio Trigger still has to offer. After all, the essence of creativity lies in its ability to continually reinvent itself.

Finally, the series was Studio Trigger's first original production, directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and written by the brilliant Kazuki Nakashima. This dynamic duo has previously collaborated with Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann. The series made its debut in Japan on October 3, 2013 and was broadcast until March 27, 2014, delighting fans around the world.
