Yo-kai-Watch

Media Factory has released the first trailer for the animated film Yo-kai Watch, titled Yo-kai Watch: Tanjō no Himitsu da Nyan!. The film premieres in Japan on December 20th.

The film will star Haruka Tomatsu as Keita Amano, Tomokazu Seki as Whisper, Etsuko Kozakura as Jibanyan, and Yuuki Kaji as Fuyunyan. Other cast members include Tohru Nara as Kuma, Aya Endo as Fumika Kodama, and Chie Satou as Kanchi Imada. Yoichi Kato will provide the scripts for the film, while Ken'ichirō Saigo will compose the score. Oriental Light and Magic is animating.

Game developer Level-5 announced the Yo-kai franchise in 2011 with a game, and an animated series and manga were already in the works. The first game in the franchise was released for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan in July of last year, and last month, Yo-kai Watch 2 also arrived for the 3DS handheld. The anime premiered in January of last year. The manga has four volumes that have sold 1.5 million copies.

Dentsu Entertainment USA is offering the anime for streaming and merchandising among partners in the Americas. Other LEVEL-5 Inc. game franchises—Professor Layton and Inazuma Eleven—have also received animated versions.
