Battle Angel Alita is a work by Kishiro that was published in Shueisha's magazine between 1990-1995. The original manga story takes place in a post-apocalyptic Mad Max-style setting where a city called Zalem floats in the sky and cyborgs and humans coexist. In this situation, the cybernetic engineer Daisuke Ido finds the torso of an inert cyborg in the Scrappintown junkyard, which lies beneath Zalem, and takes it to his workshop where he reactivates it.
