This year's second issue of Shueisha  Shonen Jump Next!! revealed that the magazine will undergo a name change this summer. The working title for the new name is Jump GIGA , and its concept will be "a special issue for evolved newcomers."

Shonen Jump Next!! currently publishes spin-off chapters of featured manga from the main Weekly Shonen Jump, current and past one-shots from the magazine's contributors, and one-shots from newcomers.

The magazine has undergone several changes over time:

  • It was launched in 1969 under the name Shounen Jump, being a spinoff of Weekly Shonen Jump, and was weekly.
  • In 1980 the magazine became quarterly, and in 1996 it changed its name to Akamaru Jump and was published three times a year.
  • In 2010 it changed its name again to Shonen Jump NEXT!
  • In 2012 its frequency returned to quarterly.
  • In 2014 the magazine was transformed again, becoming the current Shonen Jump NEXT!! and began to be published bimonthly.
