At the end of the last episode, Shenmei discovers that Maomao and Kyou-u are hiding in the warehouse where the pistols are produced. Because of this, she decides to punish them severely. The merciless woman is accompanied by Ayla, one of the foreign envoys, Suirei, and Loulan.

The scene proves that one of the foreign envoys is indeed involved in the production of the pistols. This revelation is likely related to the story of the sisters who were not allowed to leave the house, since, in Gaoshun's account, it is evident that one of them escaped to meet someone she knew. Therefore, it is possible that the escape is linked to her participation in the production of the pistols and the rebellion led by Shishou.
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Shisui's true identity
When Shenmei is ready to punish them, Loulan intervenes and tells her mother that Maomao is the new apothecary responsible for trying to create the youth potion. Although the anime has placed numerous hints throughout the narrative, the revelation that Shisui is actually Loulan only occurs in this episode.
Maomao is surprised by the girl's acting ability, since her personality while playing the servant Shisui is completely different from when she's dressed as Loulan. Besides the revelation that occurs in the episode, it's evident that Loulan is reluctant to disagree with her mother and is afraid of her. However, she doesn't agree with Shenmei's actions, especially the aggression directed at Suirei, who is also Shishou's daughter.

During the episode, it becomes clear that Shenmei dislikes Suirei because she is Shishou's daughter with another woman. Despite this, Loulan shows affection for her half-sister and even uses her real name, Shisui, when she is in disguise. Shenmei, on the other hand, rejects the use of that name for Suirei because it carries the ideogram of the family clan.
Finally, they decide to take Maomao to a place they call a fortress. There, according to Shenmei, it will be more suitable for the apothecary to create a youth potion. At the location, Maomao finds many books and ingredients left by the former apothecary.

Lakan discovers Shishou's conspiracy against the royal family
All the incidents in the first season were orchestrated by Suirei. Now, we know that everything that happened, both in the first episodes of the series and now in the second season, was a plan by Shishou to destroy the royal family.
While conducting his investigation, Lahan, the strategist's son, discovers that Shishou's fortress is expanding. However, Shishou does not inform the emperor of the expansion. Therefore, they consider this an act of rebellion. When Lahan gathers enough evidence of Shishou's treachery, he asks Jinshi to mobilize the army to defeat him.

At the end of the episode, while making the request, Lakan reveals that he knows Jinshi isn't a eunuch. The strategist even calls him the Prince of the Moon. However, Jinshi isn't surprised by Lakan's discovery. In future episodes, it's likely he'll abandon his eunuch disguise altogether to put an end to the rebellion led by Shishou.
What can we expect from the next episode?
According to the manga and the preview for the next episode, Shenmei punishes Maomao. However, the girl receives help from Suirei and Kyou-u. Furthermore, Loulan finally decides to act against her mother's plans and does something unexpected.
The second season is drawing ever closer to its conclusion. The excellent script allows events from the previous season to connect with current incidents. Furthermore, the animation, produced by TOHO and OLM studios, complements the narrative with its vibrant colors and unique details, such as the character and environment designs present in the anime. The voice acting for the character Maomao, by Aoi Yuki, is also incredible. It's no wonder she received the Best Voice Performance at the Anime Awards.
Episode 21 will be released on Friday, June 6th, on the Crunchyroll streaming platform, with Portuguese subtitles. In addition, a reading version of the anime's ending theme song, performed by Aoi Yuki, will be released alongside the episode. The manga is being published in Brazil by Panini , and currently 14 volumes are available.
