Sword Art Online novel is getting a new story arc. The news surprised fans, according to a publication in the novel's 18th volume. Scheduled for 2017, the announcement includes the phrase: " Kirito will return ."

Thus, the 18th volume focuses on the sub-arc titled "War of the Underworld" of the "Alicization" arc. In total, the saga had the arcs Aincrad, Fairy Dance, Phantom Bullet, Mother's Rosary, and Alicization.

Finally, the novel will gain an American live-action series and in Spring 2017 the film Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale will be released.
