Synopsis:

The fantasy story takes place in Japan's Taishō era (1912–1926) . We meet Mameda , a shape-shifting tanuki girl who dreams of becoming human. Mameda transforms her outward appearance into a beautiful black-haired human girl and heads to the bustling city of Osaka. However, people immediately recognize Mameda's disguise, and a beautiful woman ruthlessly tells the depressed Mameda, "Go back to where you came from." It turns out that this woman, named Bunko, is herself a supernatural creature who has transformed into a rakugo (comedic storytelling) storyteller. Mameda begs Bunko to become her master and teach her how to portray a human.
