The team developed the game in Unreal Engine 5 and based the story on the classic literary work The Tale of Jeon Woochi. The plot follows the protagonist Jeon Woochi, a wizard who faces injustice and challenges corrupt authorities, combining historical and fantasy elements.
Official announcement and first details of Woochi the Wayfarer
According to Nexon, Woochi the Wayfarer aims to offer an experience that combines references from traditional Korean culture with a narrative accessible to players from different countries. The game features settings and characters inspired by Joseon-era Korea, including folkloric monsters and period-accurate settings.
The first teaser, just over two minutes long, alternates between scenes of mystery and tension. Highlights include Myoan, a shaman chanting an enigmatic chant, and the silhouette of Woochi emerging from a dense forest. The video ends with a direct confrontation between the two figures, hinting at a central conflict in the plot.
Collaboration and historical research
To ensure authenticity, the LoreVault team collaborates with experts in traditional Korean literature and music. Additionally, the team visited historical sites to capture architectural and cultural details and reproduced them in high-quality in-game.
Jung Jae-il composed the title's music, after composing the soundtracks for Parasite and Squid Game. The compositions are influenced by traditional Korean music, thus creating a sound identity aligned with the game's historical setting.
Woochi the Wayfarer will be released for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, but Nexon has not yet released a release date. More gameplay information and a release date are expected in the coming months.
