According to Deadline, DreamWorks is hiring director Rupert Sanders the American version of the anime and manga Ghost in the Shell, Former Marvel executive Avi Arad is one of the producers.
Known for Snow White and the Huntsman, Rupert Sanders has reportedly signed a contract with the studio. DreamWorks has also commissioned William Wheeler to write a new version of the script, but there is no filming schedule yet.
Currently without a release date or cast confirmed, the plot is expected to follow the anime's storyline, in which Major Mokoto Kusanagi, a cybernetic police officer, fights to bring justice to the streets of her Japanese megacity in a dystopian future.
