Nintendo has just released system update version 20.0.0 for the Nintendo Switch , and with it comes a new feature that promises to change the way we interact with digital games: the "virtual cartridge" system .

After all, who hasn't missed the convenience of physical cartridges even after switching to digital? Well, now, with this new feature, games purchased via download can be used as if they were real cartridges. In other words, you can virtually "insert" the game into another console in your family in a practical way, without having to download everything again.

How does the virtual cartridge work?

As detailed by Nintendo, this feature allows the digital game to be "set" on another Nintendo Switch that belongs to your account or is linked to your Nintendo Family. However, it's important to note that it will not be possible to lend the virtual cartridge to friends who are not registered as members of your family in the Nintendo ecosystem.

Undoubtedly, this innovation makes life easier for those who own more than one console at home or share games with siblings and children. It's a modern solution that simulates the portability of traditional cartridges with the convenience of digital.

Switch 2: Future features are already appearing

But it doesn't stop there. The update also offered a glimpse of what's to come with the Nintendo Switch 2.Features like "Ossowake Tsūshin"—something like simplified communication for sharing games—and the option to fully transfer data to the new console are already present, although they can only be used after the official launch of the Switch 2.

Therefore, version 20.0.0 not only improves the current player experience, but also prepares the ground for the new generation of consoles from Nintendo.
