The anime To Be Hero X had already made it clear that the life of a hero isn't easy. Especially in episode 2, titled "Xiao Yueqing," where the character gave up being a hero because she couldn't stand not being in control of her own life anymore. In episode 3, released on April 19th, another hero is introduced. This time, Em Riste shows that the problem can be even worse than we imagined.

- The Beginning After The End wins over audiences in Japan
In the episode, Nice's businesswoman wants him to climb the hero rankings, so she asks him to find Loba, the archenemy of Em Riste, the hero who holds the 10th position. Before gaining people's trust and power, Em Riste was a firefighter. He saved a little girl's life in a fire, which earned him admiration, trust, and later, a statue in his honor.

Nice's businesswoman wants the hero to take Em Riste's place, so she asks him to stop Loba. Furthermore, she makes it clear that only one can reach position X, the highest rank. Therefore, there is competition among the heroes themselves to achieve this goal, a fact that becomes clear when an unknown hero almost attacks Nice while he was searching for the villain.
In To Be Hero X, the audience's wish is our command
In episode 2, Xiao Yueqing confesses that her teleportation power only works for places where Nice is. This is because the audience wants them to be together. The same happens with Em Riste, whose confidence is based on the audience's desire for him to remain strong and resilient.
Because of this, the hero suffers various uncomfortable situations in his daily life. Besides not being able to lie down to sleep, since he must always remain standing, Em Riste cannot bend over. Therefore, people see him as a strong figure and a pillar of humanity.
The end of the episode brings an interesting twist
While examining the Wolf's hideout, Nice realizes she's in a trap, where several bombs are about to be detonated. The explosion site is strategic, below the heroes' square, where the Em Riste statue stands.

After investigating the scene, Nice discovers something surprising. The Wolf, in fact, doesn't hate Em Riste; she hates the image he represents. The villain is the girl the hero saved in the fire, consumed by resentment at witnessing how the firefighter was perceived by the public. Her only wish was for Em Riste to return to how he was before.
With that, the 10th hero gives up his position and returns to being an ordinary person. Nice, after saving Em Riste and a little girl from being crushed by the statue in the square, moves up to the 10th position in the hero ranking. Although at times she enjoys having assumed Nice's identity, it's noticeable that Lin Ling still reflects a lot on her decision and seems to disagree with the burden some heroes carry.
The final scene shows that the Enlightenment, a former hero, appears to have kidnapped Xiao Yueqing to threaten Nice. It's likely that in the next episode, the villain will have a more prominent role, and the hero will do everything to rescue the girl who still holds a special place in his heart.

Episode 3 begins to bring depth to the work
So far, the story of episode 3 has been the best in the anime. It explored, with a bit more depth, the heavy burden that heroes carry, especially in a world where public opinion defines who you are.
The anime is still in its early stages, so there's much more to explore. Besides Nice, there are nine more heroes who make up the top ten and who will likely be introduced soon. Until then, we don't know if the image and confidence they project are truly genuine.
Furthermore, the animation, created by BeDream studio, blends 2D and 3D at specific moments, making it bold, beautiful, and interesting. With a combination of a script that differs from the norm and pleasing animation, To Be Hero X holds the position of one of the best anime of the season.
