According to the company, the case involves copyright infringement for profit. The website reproduced detailed content from the works, including dialogues and descriptions, without the consent of the copyright holders. The action was supported by organizations such as CODA.
Understand the case involving Overlord
The lawsuit is directly related to the anime Overlord, a fantasy series based on the light novel by Kugane Maruyama, published by Enterbrain. Parts of the work were copied and illegally distributed in text format.
Investigations revealed that the individual operated the website in a structured way to generate revenue. The Japanese court imposed a suspended prison sentence and a fine, in addition to acknowledging the financial impact on the producers and creators involved.
Kadokawa strengthens protection against piracy
