The current trend is the much-talked-about "crossover." After the announcement that Family Guy will have an episode set in Springfield, The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean announced at San Diego Comic-Con Matt Groening animated series will merge for a special episode. The crossover between The Simpsons and Futurama will be filmed in August and could air as the finale of the 25th season in May 2014 or the beginning of the 26th. Futurama was canceled and is currently airing its seventh and final season on Comedy Central . It's worth waiting to see this great comedic crossover.
