The publisher CyberAgent announced the anime of the manga Just Like Mona Lisa (Seibetsu “Mona Lisa” no Kimi e.), a work by Tsumuji Yoshimura. The production will be handled by Studio SHAFT, known for series such as Monogatari and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

The story follows Hinase, a person who continues to live without defining their gender in a world where everyone is born without this characteristic and can choose it later. Around them are their childhood friends Ritsu and Shiori, who have already made their choices, creating a scenario that explores identity, affection, and human relationships.

Thus, the manga surpassed the milestone of 1 million copies in circulation. The work was published by Yoshimura on Square Enix 's Gangan Online website between May 2018 and December 2022.

A novel that questions identity and choices

Based on the question "if everyone was born without gender, who would you fall in love with?", Just Like Mona Lisa constructs a narrative focused on personal discovery. The plot also highlights how classmates and adults grapple with similar questions throughout the story.

Now, all that remains is to wait for further information regarding the adaptation. In the meantime, keep following AnimeNews for more news about anime, manga, Japanese games , and the upcoming seasons in the industry.
