At the end of the last episode of Aldnoah.Zero, it was revealed that the second season will air starting in January 2015. This is one of those cases where the two seasons of the anime are produced together, so it was already confirmed since the release, but now we have the expected airing date.
In 1972, the remains of a Martian civilization and an unknown technology—a teleportation device that allows humanity to migrate to Mars, the Hyper Gate—are found on the lunar surface. This fuels the colonization of Mars and political friction, but it is in a post-war world, years later, that this story begins, at the height of all the consequences of human stupidity.
The anime is an original production by A1-Pictures studio, written by Katsuhiko Takayama, and featured the collaboration of Gen Urobushi (Fate/Zero, Suisei no Gargantia) in the creation of the project and scripts for the first three episodes (the remaining episodes were written by Takayama himself).
