Six years after the release of Alita: Battle Angel , actress Rosa Salazar has rekindled fans' hopes by confirming that there are still plans for a sequel. The 2019 sci-fi film, directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron , received a lukewarm box office reception but gained a loyal audience who never gave up on seeing the story continue.
During an interview with Collider Ladies Night , Salazar revealed that she still mentions the project frequently. "I always bring up Alita. It could still happen," the actress said, noting that Cameron "still has the set" — an exciting clue for fans.
James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez remain engaged
Despite Cameron's busy schedule, involved in new Avatar , both he and Rodriguez remain interested in producing Alita 2. In 2022, they both signed a "blood oath" to make the project a reality. However, the high cost and poor commercial performance of the first film remain barriers to the studio approving the sequel.
Salazar also revealed she wrote her own treatment for Alita 2 , which was praised by Cameron himself: "He said it was incredible," she said. Even without official confirmation, the actress remains enthusiastic and reinforces her desire to return to the role: "It was the best experience of my career."
Meanwhile, the #AlitaArmy remains active on social media, putting pressure on studios and keeping the flame of cinema . Thus, there is still hope that Alita: Battle Angel 2 will get off the ground in the coming years.
