Six years after the release of Alita: Battle Angel, actress Rosa Salazar rekindled fans' hopes by confirming that there are still plans for a sequel. The 2019 science fiction film, directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron, had a lukewarm reception at the box office, but won over a loyal audience that never gave up on seeing the story continue.

During an interview on the Collider Ladies Night, Salazar revealed that she still mentions the project frequently. “I always bring up Alita. It could still happen,” the actress stated, highlighting that Cameron “still has the set”—an exciting clue for fans.

James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez remain committed

Despite Cameron's busy schedule, involved in new Avatar, both he and Rodriguez remain interested in producing Alita 2.In 2022, they even made a "blood oath" to make the project a reality. However, the high cost and commercial performance of the first film continue to be barriers for the studio to approve the sequel.

Salazar also revealed that she wrote her own treatment for Alita 2, which was praised by Cameron himself: "He said it was incredible," she said. Even without official confirmation, the actress remains enthusiastic and reinforces her desire to return to the role: "It was the best experience of my career."

Meanwhile, the #AlitaArmy remains active on social media, putting pressure on the studios and keeping the flame of cinema. Therefore, there is still hope that Alita: Battle Angel 2 will be made in the coming years.
