A recent survey conducted by Entmeet revealed interesting data: Teenagers, seen as the primary audience for anime , are actually the age group least likely to engage with it.

The research focused on ages 10 to 59 in Japan , with insights into the habits of the anime community among the younger audience. Contrary to popular belief, the research results revealed that teenagers, despite being the primary target audience for anime, showed the lowest engagement with the medium. On the other hand, the age group that watches the most anime is in their 40s.

The reason behind this anime audience:

Entmeet suggested that the reason behind this trend could be linked to the evolving media consumption habits of Generation Z, and noted the emergence of a new phenomenon called "Taipa" (Time Performance), where individuals prioritize content that maximizes entertainment value within limited time constraints.

The traditional anime format, with 30-minute episodes and 12-13 episode seasons, may not align with their preferences. Furthermore, the research also revealed that teenagers showed a notable inclination towards action/fighting and romance anime.

The percentage of teenagers who chose romance was 30.2%. The research indicated that a possible reason for choosing romance in this category was that the COVID-19 pandemic prevented them from enjoying their youth and school life.

On the other hand, action and fighting anime stood out as the overall preferred anime genre among the surveyed audience.

When it came to the breakdown by gender, men were 15% more likely to watch anime than women. Genres such as Action, Fighting, Science Fiction, Horror, and Sports were preferred by men, while women favored Romance and Medical.

Finally, the anime audience had a total of 500 participants and was conducted between January 16, 2024, and January 29, 2024.
