A recent survey conducted by Entmeet revealed interesting data: Teenagers, seen as the main audience for anime , are actually the age group least likely to get involved.

The survey focused on people aged 10 to 59 in Japan , with insights into the anime community and habits among younger audiences. Contrary to popular belief, the survey results revealed that teenagers, despite being the primary target audience for anime, showed the lowest engagement with the medium. On the other hand, the age group that watches the most anime is in their 40s.

The reason behind this anime viewership:

Entmeet suggested that the reason behind this trend could be linked to the evolving media consumption habits of Generation Z, and noted the emergence of a new phenomenon called “Taipa” (Time Performance), where individuals prioritize content that maximizes entertainment value within limited time constraints.

The traditional anime format, with 30-minute episodes and 12- to 13-episode seasons, may not align with your preferences. Furthermore, the survey also revealed that teenagers demonstrated a notable inclination towards action/fighting and romance anime.

The percentage of teens who chose romance was 30.2%. The survey pointed out that a possible reason in the romance category was the COVID-19 pandemic preventing them from enjoying their youth and school life..

On the other hand, action and fighting anime stood out as the general preferred anime genre among the surveyed audience.

When it came to the gender breakdown, men were 15% more likely to watch anime than women. Genres like Action, Fighting, Sci-Fi, Horror, and Sports were preferred by men, while Romance and Medical were preferred by women.

Finally, the anime audience had a total of 500 participants carried out between January 16, 2024 and January 29, 2024.
