Anne Shirley is guilty of something she didn't do and needs to make an important decision

The episode begins with the protagonist recounting that she was invited to a picnic, where she will try ice cream for the first time. However, a brooch that is very dear to Marilla goes missing, and the girl says that, despite trying it, she wasn't the one who lost it. Marilla, hurt by the thought that Anne is lying, decides to punish her until she tells the truth.

Although she hadn't actually lost the brooch, Anne decides to fabricate a confession so she can go on the picnic with the other girls. However, this only infuriates Marilla, who makes Anne stay in her room as punishment. Later, the brooch is found and the two reconcile. Anne then attends the picnic, tries the much-anticipated ice cream, and enjoys having fun with her friends.

Anne Shirley is a multi-layered character. Besides having a striking personality, she is creative, funny, and dramatic at times in the narrative. The incident with Marilla's brooch shows that she has a strong temperament and rarely gives up on her goals.

Gilbert Blythe: A potential rival for Anne

Anne Shirley is a little behind in her studies, but that doesn't stop her from being considered the best in her class. However, Gilbert's arrival threatens her position at Avonlea High School. Initially, the protagonist calmly accepts the boy's presence and makes it clear that she is happy to have a worthy rival.

However, their relationship doesn't begin amicably. Gilbert calls Anne "carrot," and she hates it when people make fun of her physical features, especially her red hair, which she says she doesn't like. Because of this, the protagonist says she hates him and is deeply hurt by Gilbert.

Those familiar with the original work know that the relationship between the two undergoes many changes along the way. Therefore, meeting Gilbert is an important step in Anne's journey. The boy's arrival marks the beginning of a friendship and romance fraught with obstacles.

The narrative delivers a compelling drama and a character unlike any we're used to

Anne Shirley is no ordinary girl. She's always dreaming, naming things, and observing every little detail in the places she goes. Following this girl's journey brings an incredible nostalgia for what it's like to be a child. In every moment of her life, Anne learns something new, and we, as viewers, follow her daily choices and reflections.

We know it's not easy to grow up, fall in love, lose friends, and go through the entire process that maturing requires, which is why it's so touching to watch Anne grow. In the next episode, titled "I Can't Stay Sad for Long in Such an Interesting World," the protagonist accidentally serves wine to Diana, which causes the girl's mother to forbid them from playing together anymore.
