The classic story of friendship and overcoming adversity , AnoHana: The Flower We Saw That Day , is getting a new lease on life in live-action . TBS has revealed the first trailer for the adaptation based on the anime Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai , which originally aired in 2011 and is widely recognized as one of the most moving works of the last decade.

A reunion marked by pain and memories

AnoHana Live-action trailer

The plot of AnoHana follows a group of six childhood friends who drifted apart after the tragic death of Meiko “Menma” Honma . However, a decade after the accident, the group's leader, Jinta Yadomi , lives isolated from the world, immersed in his own grief. Surprisingly, one summer day, Menma reappears before him, now looking older, asking for his help to fulfill one last wish.

Certainly, this narrative, which blends drama, grief, and redemption, has won the hearts of many fans. Just like in the original anime, the focus remains on rebuilding broken bonds and the lasting impact of an unresolved loss.

Team behind the live-action version of Live-action

Masaki Nishiura, known for his work on Densha Otoko , will direct the special. The script, in turn, will be written by Yoshihiro Izumi, an experienced screenwriter who has worked on live-action adaptations such as Ranma ½ and Death Note . Therefore, we can expect a sensitive and respectful approach to the original material.

Although many fans are cautious about live-action adaptations, the released trailer shows a carefully crafted production, with a young cast and nostalgic setting, faithfully reflecting the emotional atmosphere of the anime.

The special premieres on September 21, 2015 , exclusively in Japan. However, international fans are already eagerly awaiting its availability on streaming platforms.

After all, who wouldn't want to revisit this story with a fresh, live-action perspective?
