SBT recently added Avatar: The Legend of Korra to its schedule, airing during "Bom Dia & Cia." This surprised fans, as Rede Globo had acquired the previous version, "Avatar: The Legend of Aang," but this didn't even come close to causing controversy. The reason for the buzz surrounding the show was its ending.
(SPOILER ALERT) The Legend of Korra aired and aired for four seasons on Nickelodeon, and it's in the third season that all the controversy begins. After finally ending her relationship with Mako, Korra and Asami's friendship begins to be highlighted during the final half of season three and throughout season four. In the final episode, in the FINAL SECONDS, Korra and Asami look deeply into each other's eyes, hold hands, and go to the spirit world together.
After the controversial ending was shown, screenwriter Michael Dante DiMartino, one of the creators of the animation, confirmed on his blog the homosexual relationship between Korra and Asami and thanks to this, several websites fell upon the cartoon.
“SBT Announces Cartoon with Lesbian Romance.” “Lesbian cartoon will be shown on SBT.” “SBT premieres cartoon that caused controversy due to lesbian couple.” AND ALL THE NEWS ARE LIKE THIS, not to mention that they still use fan-made montages of a kiss between Korra and Asami (which never existed).
To begin with, "The Legend of Korra" never emphasized a lesbian relationship. The main story shows the importance of friendship, teaches us not to give up with the main character always overcoming herself, teaches us to respect values, shows the evolution of a society, has its funny moments, its sad moments. A very well-written and nostalgic plot for those who watched "The Legend of Aang," but even so, the media's focus is only on the "lesbian relationship."
Not to mention that there are still sensationalists who go further, claiming that the show's time slot change in the United States was due to the romance. It wasn't even close! The time slot change was due to the fights, which were considered somewhat violent for all audiences.
So, parents, don't worry about your children watching "The Legend of Korra" because the cartoon is great and if your concern is about the child's sexual orientation, you can rest assured because the adventures of Korra and her friends will not influence anything.
