Shiro Fujimoto, one of the world's greatest exorcists, raised two teenagers, Rin Okumura and his brother Yukio, as his adopted sons. When Rin discovers he possesses paranormal powers and is the son of one of the world's most powerful demons, his father, Shiro Fujimoto, must sacrifice himself to protect his family from the demons. Intending to avenge Shiro Fujimoto's death, Rin wishes to become an exorcist. But to do so, he must participate in a special exorcist course, known to few.

Thus, the Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist) manga series, written and illustrated by Katou Kazue, debuted in Shueisha's monthly Jump Square magazine in April 2009. However, the first season of the anime was released in 2011 by the animation studio A-1 Pictures, with 25 episodes.

Finally, the anime's sequel arrived later, only in January 2024.
