Chainsaw Man – MAPPA CEO confirms the anime's success
According to Weekly Toyo Keizai , the CEO explains that the studio invested heavily in the Chainsaw Man adaptation and what the profits were in return. He says Blu-ray sales weren't great, but the anime generated a lot of attention for MAPPA.
"We had never attracted so much public attention before releasing a work into the world. We're a young company, so we struggled to handle this pressure and perform at our best. It was a good learning experience for me to experience the detailed procedures of rights, licensing, product planning, and other tasks that were conventionally handled by the production committee.
Some series sell a lot of DVD and Blu-ray packages, while others are distributed to a large number of (streaming) viewers. Honestly, I wish this series had reached the audience that pays for the packages. We hope to explore how to reach the target audience that will pay for the work.”

Therefore, Fujimoto launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in December 2018, finishing the first arc in December 2020 with 11 volumes.
