The film Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc has officially ended its run in theaters worldwide with approximately US$191.4 million in revenue. According to data released by the Global Box Office, the production also became the 11th highest-grossing anime film of all time.
The achievement positioned the film as Sony Pictures ' second-largest release of 2025. Beyond its box office performance, the success reportedly triggered significant internal changes at MAPPA studio , responsible for adaptations such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan: The Final Season .
MAPPA wants to control more properties
During recent interviews, the CEO of MAPPA commented that the film's financial results completely altered the company's strategic vision. Instead of relying solely on production committees, the studio intends to expand its investment in its own intellectual properties and gain a direct share in the profits of its works.
The decision follows a growing trend in the Japanese industry, where major studios are seeking greater creative and financial independence. The performance of Chainsaw Man ended up serving as a practical example of how an anime can generate significant global returns.
