' second-largest release Sony Pictures of 2025. Beyond its box office performance, the success reportedly triggered significant internal changes at MAPPA, responsible for adaptations such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan: The Final Season.

MAPPA wants to control more properties

During recent interviews, the CEO of MAPPA commented that the film's financial results completely altered the company's strategic vision. Instead of relying solely on production committees, the studio intends to expand its investment in its own intellectual properties and gain a direct share in the profits of its works.

The decision follows a growing trend in the Japanese industry, where major studios are seeking greater creative and financial independence. The performance of Chainsaw Man ended up serving as a practical example of how an anime can generate significant global returns.
